San Diego artist, Elizabeth Tobias, has been receiving national press for her latest project, Survivor! 98 Second Stories. She will be premiering her short film about the project at The Expressive Arts Institute on Friday May 3 from 7-8:30pm. This is a free event.

Amplifying her fusion of social practice performance the film blends experimental and documentary styles to share the stories of 20 contemporary artists who have survived sexual assault and who participated in a performance art project created by Tobias.

Artists who have been victimized by violence often lack the support and resources needed to come forward. For artists who have been affected by the trauma of sexual assault, there are rarely adequate opportunities to create work that addresses their stories within and beyond the larger art community. The project underscores the statistic that a sexual assault occurs every 98 seconds.

The Survivor! Project brings much needed awareness and advocacy to the sexual assault epidemic, one of the greatest human rights violations in the world. The screening of the 15 minute film will be followed by a round table with artists and community leaders. This free event is hosted by The Expressive Arts Institute.
